Brontë Naylor, Up Top, 2018, Acrylic, 30 x 30m

From range of the completed and uncompleted artwork I selected a few striking elements to use as inspiration to design the skate park (see inspiration board below). These elements combine with casual conversation about what the young people want on the skate park. The strong re-occurring themes were: hand signalling, catching colours and graphic. As a result these three points heavily informed my design. ‘Up top’ is an artwork that focus on peer congratulations and encouragement. This is represented by the ‘hi-5' a widely recognised gesture for positive reinforcement.

The first phase of the Youth Urban Art Project saw a wide range of diverse youth from community complete four workshops. We played with colour combinations, natural and geometric stencilling, creating gradients, masking and illustration. Different methods of making were combined by participates in interesting ways to grow creative outcome and ideas as well as technique building.
